Compound Sentence (যৌগিক বাক্য) কাকে বলে?

3. Compound Sentence (যৌগিক বাক্য):

দুই বা তার অধিক  main clause বা একাধিক co-ordinate clause এর সমন্বয়ে সংযুক্ত হয়ে একটি সম্পূর্ণ বাক্য তৈরী করে তখন সে বাক্যকে  Compound sentence বা যৌগিক বাক্য বলা হয়।

যখন একটি বাক্য গঠিত হয়, সে বাক্যকে Compound Sentenceবলে।

যেমন:
 I saw him and he was going - Compound Sentence.

বাক্যটিতে ‘saw’ এবং ‘was’ দুটি finite verb এবং প্রত্যেটি finite verb এর Subject ও আছে।সুতরাং, এ বাক্যে দুটি clause। কিন্ত, কোন clause ই single part of speech রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়নি।প্রত্যেকটি clause ই স্বাধীন। কোনোটা কারো উপর নির্ভরশীল নয়। সুতরাং, এর কাজ কোন clause ইকরেনি। তাহলে উহার দুটি co-ordinate clause রূপে সমন্বিত হয়, একটি Compound Sentenceগঠন করেছে এবং ‘and’ conjunction রূপে বসে co-ordinate clause দুটি যুক্ত করেছে। ‘and’এখানে conjunction এবং সম্পূর্ন sentence টি একটি compound sentence।

Simple Sentence: এক clause এর বাক্য।

Conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়।

Compound Sentence: দুটি co-ordinate clause এর বাক্য। Co-ordinate conjunction দ্বারাযুক্ত হয়।

I saw him going. – Simple Sentence.

I saw that he was going - Compound Sentence.

I saw him and he was going – Complex Sentence.

A compound sentence incorporates at least two principal clauses. These clauses linked by one or more coordinating conjunctions, punctuations or both.

Conjunctions that are used in compound sentences are and, or, but, for, not, also, thus, however, moreover, therefore, so, still, else, as well as, otherwise, accordingly, yet, not yet, but also, either or, neither nor, on the contrary, etc.

Example:

He is poor but happy.

We searched him everywhere but did not find.

Mou shouted, and all the people started to clap their hands.
