The Determiner

Indefinite Article (a / an):

যখন আমরা কোনো (গননাযোগ্য একবচন- Singular countable) Noun কে অনির্দিষ্ট করে / একটি সংখ্যায় বোঝাতে চাই তখন আমরা Indefinite Article-a / an ব্যবহার করি। যেমন: He bought a colour TV. I have a pet cat. A horse can run fast.
                                                                            a/an এর ব্যবহার

শব্দের শুরুতে consonant থাকলে তার পূর্বে  a	a hen / a boy / a pen
শব্দের শুরুতে vowel (a, e, i, o, u) থাকলে তার পূর্বে  an	an apple / an Indian / an umbrella
ব্যতিক্রম
h (হ)  উচ্চারিত না হলে তার পূর্বে  an	an hour / an honest man (তবে a horse / a hotel)
One ছাড়া O দ্বারা শুরু- এমন সকল শব্দের পূর্বে an	an ox / an opera / an orange (তবে  a one-eyed man)
E/ U -এর উচ্চারণ যদি ’ইউ’ হয় তাহলে তার পূর্বে- a	a European / a uniform (তবে  an umbrella )
সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর Consonant sound হলে a	a B.A/B.A.G/B.Sc.
সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর Vowel sound হলে an	an M.A/MP/MBA / FRCS/FCPS

a/an--এর বিশেষ ব্যবহার

যার সংঙ্গে কাউকে তুলনা করা হয় তার পূর্বে a/an	He was a Shakespeare. / You are a Nazrul I see.
Unknown person -এর পূর্বে  a/an	An Ibrahim came here. A Hassan came to see me.
Many / such---(Singular common noun) a/an বসে	Many a boy came here./ He likes such a good boy.
সংখ্যাবাচক শব্দ (couple, dozen, hundred- এর পূর্বে a/an	a million of people attended the meeting
কিছু Phrase-এর পূর্বে  a/an	in a hurry /in a nutshell /in a body /in a fix/ in a temper / take a decision / only a few / only a little/ tell a lie/ make a noise etc
cough, headache, cold, rage, interest-এর পূর্বে a/an	I have a cough / I had a cold last week.
পেশা বোঝাতে  a/an	He is a businessman / Mr. Kamal was a lawyer
‘most’ যখন ‘very’ অর্থ প্রকাশ করে the-এর পরিবর্তে a	He saw a most wonderful sight

                                                         The--এর ব্যবহার

সমগ্র জাতি বোঝাতে	The cow is a useful animal / The bird flies in the sky
নদী, সাগর, উপসাগর, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ ও পর্বতমালার নামের পূর্বে	The Padma is a big river./The Atlantic is the biggest ocean.
একক বস্তু -পৃথিবী, সূর্য, চন্দ্র, পূর্ব, পশ্চিম, ইত্যাদির পূর্বে	The earth moves round the sun./The moon shines at night.
তারিখের পূর্বে	He will come on the 25th December
Adjective-এর Superlative degree--এর পূর্বে	Akbar was the greatest of all Emperors.
যত--তত বোঝাতে Comparative degree-এরপূর্বে	The more you read, the more you learn
Ordinal numeral (first, second) ইত্যাদির পূর্বে	Edward the seventh left the country / He got the first place
কোনো জাতি ও সম্প্র্রদায়ের নামের পূর্বে	The Bangladeshis are brave./The Indians are very friendly.
ধর্মগ্রন্থ, প্রশিদ্ধ গ্রন্থ, সংবাদ পত্র ও জাহাজের নামের পূর্বে	I read the Prothom Alo daily.
প্রশিদ্ধ প্রতিষ্ঠান বা প্রাসাদ এবং ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনার পূর্বে	The Taj Mahal looks very beautiful at night
Noun + clause / phrase হলে ঐ  Noun  র পূর্বে	The gold of this ring is supposed to be pure / The man who came here is my relative.
Road-এর নামের পূর্বে  (Street/Avenue(-এর পূর্বে নয়)	The bus is going to the RK Mission Road.
কোনো কিছু দ্বিতীয়বার উল্লেখ করলে তার পূর্বে	We saw a one-eyed man. The man was very helpless
Morning, noon,afternoon etc এর আগে in ব্যবহৃত হলে	He came here in the evening
Proper noun-এর পূর্বে Adjective থাকলে তার পূর্বে	The great hero Alexander conquered the whole world
Proper noun এর পূর্বে পদবি বাচক শব্দ থাকলে তার পূর্বে	The poet Nazrul is our pride.
বাদ্যযন্ত্র বাজালে তার পূর্বে	He plays the piano (তবে He has a × guitar of his own.)
অর্থপূর্ণ দেশের নামের পূর্বে	The USA / The UK / The KSA etc
কিছু Phrase-এ	slip of the tongue / speak the truth / be in the wrong / all the year round / at the sight of etc
