Articles is very important of English
Grammar. In this post I will describe about Articles (a, an & the) with
example & grammatical rule. Let’s have a look.
Articles
যে Word কোন ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, প্রাণীকে নির্দিষ্ট বা অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বুঝায় তাদেরকে
Article বলে । Article হলো Parts of speech এর একটি অংশ।
A, an, এবং the কে
Article বলে।
ইংরেজিতে Article দুই প্রকার
✪ Definite
✪ Indefinite
Definite article: The কে
Definite article বলে কারণ ইহা এক বা একাধিক বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝায়।
Example
✪ Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh
✪ I use the Mobile.
Indefinite article: A এবং An কে
Indefinite article বলে। অর্নিদিষ্ট
Noun (ব্যক্তি, প্রাণী ও বস্তুকে) কে বোঝাতে A এবং An ব্যবহার হয়।
যেমন:
✪ He bought a smartphone.
✪ I’m looking for an English book.
Uses of article (আর্টিক্যালের ব্যবহার)
A and An (Indefinite article) গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রুল
Rule-1
সাধারণত consonant থাকলে তার পূর্বে a এবং
vowel (a, e, i, o, u) থাকলে তার পূর্বে an বসে।
যেমনঃ an ant, an eagle, a horse, a bag, a
pen,
Rule-2
যদি শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর h থাকে এবং h যদি উচ্চারিত হয় তবে তার পূর্বে a বসে এবং h উচ্চারিত না হলে তার পূর্বে an পূর্বে বসে।
যেমনঃ a horse, a house, an honorable man, an
hour
Rule-3
কোন শব্দ vowel দিয়ে শুরু হলেও তা যদি ইউ (U)
এর মত উচ্চারিত হয় তারপূর্বে a বসে। যেমনঃ a university, a European, a
useful product, a unit.
Rule-4
O দিয়ে যেসব শব্দ গঠিত তার পূর্বে an বসে। ব্যতিক্রমঃ one যুক্ত শব্দের পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন: a one-taka note, an open
field
Rule- 5
Abbreviation প্রথম অক্ষর
vowel এর মত উচ্চারিত হলে তার পূর্বে an বসে।
যেমনঃ
✪ Mr. Robin is an M.B.B.S
✪ He is an M.A

Rule- 6
এক জাতীয় সকল
singular common noun এর পূর্বে indefinite article (a/an) বসে।
যেমনঃ
✪ A dog is a faithful animal.
✪ A lion is always dangerous.
Rule- 7
সংখ্যাবাচক যেমন:
dozen, hundred, thousand, million ইত্যাদি এর পূর্বে a বসে। যেমন:
✪ He earns a thousand dollar a month
✪ At least a million of people attend the
conference.
Rule- 8
বিশেষ কিছু Idioms/Phrase এর পূর্বে
a/an বসে।
যেমন: In a hurry, in a fix
Rule- 9
Plural noun এর পূর্বে
few, little, lot of ইত্যাদি থাকলে তার পূর্বে a বসে।
যেমন:
✪ He earns a lot of money by freelancing.
Uses of Definite article: The
Rule- 1
singular ও plural উভয়
Number নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝানোর ক্ষেত্রে এর পূর্বে The
বসে।
যেমন:
✪ The boys are playing.
✪ The students of this University are good at
English
Rule- 2
বই, ধর্মগ্রন্থ, সংবাত্রপত্র, নদী, সাগর, মহাসাগর, পর্বতশ্রেণি, ইত্যাদি নামের পূর্বে The
বসে। যেমন: The Holy Quran, “The
hundreds”(book), The Daily Start, The Amazan, the Himalayas, the Bay of Bengle ইত্যাদি।
Rule- 3
জাতি ও গোষ্ঠীর নামের পূর্বে the
বসে । যেমন: The English, the Muslims,
the British, the rich.
Rule- 4
তারিখের নামের পূর্বে the
বসে। যেমন: The 10th of December.
Rule- 5
Proper noun এর পূর্বে
Adjective থাকলে উক্ত
Adjective এর পূর্বে the
বসে। যেমন: The great Omar was the
king of Half world.
Rule- 6
পদবী/উপাধি এর পূর্বে the
বসে।
যেমন: The President, The Prime minister, the
Senator
Never use an article
যেসব ক্ষেত্রে আর্টিক্যাল ব্যবহার করা যায় না।
Example:
Incorrect: The Allah is almighty.
Correct: Allah is almighty.
Incorrect: The India is a big country
Correct: India is a big country
Incorrect: I am fond of playing the
football.
Correct: I am fond of playing
football.
Incorrect: Tipu is learning the French.
Correct: Tipu is learning French.
Incorrect: He is good at the English.
Correct: He is good at English.
